This weekend we had our first birthday party at the rink. Jessica turned 14 and invited her friends from Lacey Spring School’s 8th grade class to come skate and party! Here are a few shots from the night:

First Worship Service Rocked!

Pre-launch Service Weekend Success

All I can say is, “Wow!”

On Saturday, our Up/Down and Hospitality Teams showed up for a long training session as we learned how to set up all of our Church in a Box equipment. Then, our Worship Team showed up to have their first practice with our new system.  After all of that was done, we learned how to take down and store away our worship set-up.

Then, on Sunday, everyone came back early to go live.  I was amazed as I watched the folks who were trained on Saturday quickly get to work, needing little instruction, and actually training others who came as volunteer or who had missed the training on Saturday.  To our surprise, we had everything set up with plenty of time to spare.

Then, oh me of little faith, we are blown away by the turn-out.  I expected about 80-90 people.  We set up about 120 chairs.  We had to scramble to get the rest of our chairs out of the storage area and set up in oder to seat the 148 people who came.  And, the best news is, there is room for at least 100 more.

I’m pumped about our upcoming launch this Sunday, September 25th at 11:05.  I hope you’ll come join us, as we begin a sermon series called, “He’s Still Got the Whole World in His Hands.”  Chris Jones, our Student and Teach Pastor, will be giving the message.

The success of last week and the anticipation of this coming Sunday leads me to this closing thought, words written by the Apostle Paul to the church at Ephesus while he was in prison:

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen (Eph. 3:20-21).

There were interviews from Sr. Pastor Todd Henderson, Teaching Pastor Chris Jones, and Activities Coordinator Rachel Sparkman. Rachel’s car also had a cameo! Working Hard at the Rink

Parkway Pioneers have been showing up in full force for our work days! They’re scouring the concession stand, priming walls and taking loads of trash to the dump! We will have two more work days this week, one on Friday from 4-9, and Saturday from 9-1. Hope to see you there!

Parkway Pioneers!

Nope, not them either.

Aldersgate is asking its members to prayerfully consider becoming Parkway Pioneers, a group that is committed to service at the AP. You don’t have to live in a covered wagon, or cook over an open fire. All you have to do is commit six months of your time to help this ministry become a success through financial support, preparation, and/or ongoing service. If you and your family want to make this commitment, please fill out this online survey so that the pastors and staff can get you plugged into the right form of service for you.

First Night of Derby Practice!

Monday night the Rolling Arsenal of Derby started their biweekly practices at Aldersgate on the Parkway!

According to their website, rollingarsenalofderby.com, Rolling Arsenal of Derby is a roller derby league that offers positive growth and development for girls and women who are interested in mastering the sport of roller derby.

They are looking awesome to me, a girl who knows nothing about roller derby or skating! I need to learn what the sport is all about, and luckily for me there’s an app for that.

Staff Meeting on the Parkway

The staff met at the rink today to get some more vision for the ministry. Chris, Todd O, and Todd H couldn’t resist turning on the lights and having a dance party!
